Week 2 & 3: Learning Plan & Project Proposal

Do Good Project WEEK 2 & 3:
Learning Plan & Project Proposal

For the few weeks, I watch several work samples regarding the projection mapping. I found this video that has inspired me. It's a game that utilise projection mapping and teaches sustainable farming practices. I imagine doing project similar to this would not only allow me to learn projection mapping but also using this as a tool for education and public awareness.

Learning Goal

Phase 1: What is my learning goal?

  • Create an interactive projection mapping by incorporating distinctive, expressive and creative gameplay and interactive narrative.
  • Enhance skills, knowledge and methodologies for developing, documenting and effectively communicate user
  • Utilise participative design approaches including processes for generating, evaluating and analysing information and material from user testing.

What do I want to learn?

  • Acquire new skills for creating an interactive projection mapping

  • Familiarise and enhance coding skills

  • Improve my proficiency in building 3D elements and animations with Blender

  • Develop independence in conducting user interviews and testing.

What do I know about it now?

  • Basic skills in 3D modelling and animation using Blender and Cinema 4D.

  • Possess experiences in UI/UX, motion graphics, video making and Unity

  • Familiar with basic fabrication skills such as 3D printing, laser cutting, soldering and wood crafts.

  • Experienced in creating illustrations and character designs.

What needs to change to learn what I do not know?

  • Research on work samples or case studies to have a better understanding of the topics, in order to deliver an effective design approach.

  • Conduct user interviews and analyse their opinions to further enhance my research.

  • Seek advice from lecturers who have expertise in interactive projection mapping to gain better understanding of the skills that I needed to acquire for the field.

  • Strengthen my self learning approach on codings by exploring tutorials from online communities.

What can I do to make this happen?

  • Establish weekly documentation and goal-setting routine for personal development.

  • Prioritise quality sleep to boost energy levels

Phase 2: What is my action plan?

What can I do to learn what I do not know?

  • Seek consultations from lecturers and people who have experience in the field.

  • Search for work samples of interactive projection mapping that have similar concepts.

What could keep me from taking action?

  • Struggle with anxiety during interviews with strangers.

  • Afraid of failure.

  • Limited knowledge on project mapping.

  • Facing challenges in having productivity at completing tasks.

What can I do to remove these barriers?

  • Be patient with myself, and seek support from lecturers  or peers when needed.

  • View failures as an opportunity to improve myself.

  • Think positively and celebrate small achievements.

  • Start with a small and manageable project to fully familiarise myself with interactive projection mapping.

  • Having online call or meet up with friends to boost productivity by doing assignments together

  • Find someone to talk to cope with stress.

When will I take action?

  • Start doing an extensive amount of external and internal research and findings on the project

Project Proposals

Feedback

After consulting with my lecturer, Louise, I have a better understanding of the project. The lecturer gave me advice in evaluating the project proposals by following three criteria such as human needs, human impact and personal interest. After the evaluation, I've decided that Plastic Resin Codes and Save Money is the best out of the 5 proposals. Louise advices me to research about the root of the problem and anecdotes for the topics before finalizing the proposal topic.

Learning Thoughts

During these two weeks, I'm confused and unclear about the goal I want to achieve. So, planning out my learning plan became a challenge as I'm unsure with the specific field to focus on. After the consultation with Louise, it has not only helped me in deciding my project proposal, but also push me to do something new. The topic about plastic resin codes and save money led me to choose interactive projection mapping. I want to focus on creating an engaging educational game by utilising projection mapping. Overall, I have a clearer direction on what I'm going to do.
