WEEK 4: LEARNING PLAN & PROJECT PROPOSAL
Do Good Project WEEK 4
Learning Plan & Project Proposal
After considering the previous topics, I have decided to focus on Financial Literacy. This topic is more closely related to the urgent issues facing our country and requires immediate attention. I conducted an research into the Financial Challenges faced by the Malaysians. The data was gathered from a survey conducted by RinggitPlus, with a sampling of 3.144 Malaysians aged 18 and above. The findings revealed several financial challenges, as outlined below:
What are the causes of these financial problems? In order to explore this question, I did quick fact-check using Chatgpt. Here are the options it provided:
Financial Literacy caught my attention due to personal experiences I've encountered numerous times. While I have some general understanding about the importance of Finance and acknowledge that budgeting is important, my financial knowledge has been largely gathered from the news' insights or conversations with relatives. However, I never truly understood its depth until now. The research on Malaysia's Financial Literacy also further interested me. This topic will not know allows me to utilising projection mapping to educate and create awareness but also, helping myself to understand financial literacy itself. Thus, it has helped me in evaluating and solidifying my decision on choosing this topic.

Feedback
Louise: I received some advice on further deep dive into my topic, by finding target/objective, studying various perspective from media and agency published content, find research published materials, and find any association government to the related topic. Louise also pointed out that my problem statement and 5 Whys are too generalised and no human impact. After some discussion with Louise, I have decided to narrow my focus on undergraduate students. This decision has helped me in streamlining the scope of my research. This would also help me to refine my problem statement as right now, I have a target audience to focus on.
Lin Yew: I had some doubts about choosing projection mapping as my topic. Lin yew gave me some advices on helping me to rationalise this choice. He suggested me to imagine a scenario for my project by considering the client's perspective -who wants to purchase this product, and identify the end-users.
Learning Plan
Projection mapping is an unfamiliar field to me, so I consulted with a senior, Jay, some lecturers like Mink and Ron to establish a more structured plan.
- The consultation with Mink is insightful. he recommends me to break down the project into manageable components, beginning with projection of a simple object on a platform before progressing to interactive elements.
- For interactive elements, Both Mink and Jay suggested to use Leap Motion due to its compact size and detects hand gestures. They also mentioned LiDAR as an option but its suitable for body gestures and detects wider ranges.
- For the projection mapping, Mink suggested to consider Touchdesigner projection mapping. He mentioned both Leapmotion and Touchdesigner have plugins provided for Unity3D. On the other hand, Ron suggested to look up about processing surface mapper.
After some consideration, I've decided to try out these suggestions:
- Leap Motion - Unity3D
- Touchdesigner projection mapping - Unity3D
